Bear Hug awarded “outstanding merit’ by The Children’s Book Committee of the Bank Street College of Education, New York in their 2015 Best Children’s Books of the Year!
Katharine McEwen graduated from Kingston University with a first class honours degree in illustration in 1996. Since then, she has received commissions for editorials, greetings cards and advertising, but has found her bold, graphic watercolours have been particularly appealing to children’s publishers. She is fortunate to have worked with an array of well-known authors and to date, has illustrated around forty children’s books, several having won awards including the Red House Children’s Book Award and the Blue Peter Best Illustrated Book to Read Aloud for The Man Who Wore All His Clothes, written by Allan Ahlberg. She is currently illustrating stories of her own.
She regularly partakes in children’s illustration talks and workshops and finds the interaction with the children a great source of inspiration to her work.
Katharine lives with her husband in Tonbridge, Kent and commutes to Clerkenwell, London where she has shared a studio for the past 6 years.
