Niroot Puttapipat is an artist with immense ability. As a child in his native Chiang Mai, northern Thailand (the grandson of a Lanna princess), Niroot shared his time between drawing, devouring books, and playing out stories, leading to a lifelong interest in art, literature, history and the natural world. They studied Illustration at Kingston University graduating in 2003. Whilst there, his illustrations for the Russian fairytale, The Firebird, were exhibited at Kingston Museum. They are passionately fond of the ‘Golden Age’ illustrators, oriental art, and silhouettes. Niroot has been published by Walker Books Ltd since graduation but has also worked with The Folio Society, Candlewick Press, Palazzo Editions, Random House US, Random House UK, Faber and Faber, Kingfisher and Oxford University Press.

Niroot’s illustrations have been exhibited frequently at The British Library since 2007, the latest included his title page image of the whale from Kipling’s Just So Stories as part of the Picture This: Childrens Illustrated Classics exhibition 2014. Niroot also exhibited at the Manchester Art Gallery and the William Morris Gallery, Walthamstow. And was awarded the bronze prize in the Books category of the Association of Illustrators Images 34 – the Best of Contemporary Illustration 2010.
